Hi Calpernia, I can’t get enough of Soldier’s Girl. It’s one of my favorite movies and I try to get as many people as I can to watch it. Esp since it’s a true story, tragic and so cute. After I watched it for like the.. 5th time.. i thought to myself, I should look her up online and read more about her story or how she is. I’m glad I found your site and i’m glad to know everything is so peachy for you. I’m glad the movie was made, i’m sure so many people were impacted and touched. You really opened our eyes and we thank you for your time and wisdom you shared with us. Bye now and i’m just glad I was able to reach you and get a word in. =]

Hey Cal,
OMg, I and all my GLBT friends simply love your movie, we can’t ever get enough of it and are constantly showing it to all of the straight and GLBT community in kc. I know you are a very busy woman, but a few things if you ever get to view this. First off, the trans./drag in the movie is pretty but my GOD girl you are beautiful, 10times. SEcondly, I am involved in the Kc community of GLBT, and sec./canidate 04′ of presidency for the group in Johnson county community college-but as a group, we were wondering if by chance you do carry on to colleges for public speaking. We are ordering your book as a whole right now, and if by chance you come back around the area, if you were interested, our group, professors, and most of JCCC would be interesting in learning more about you. We are trying to work better and have increased GlBT comfort in our school, and increased the group size. You are just the person we look up to as a role model and we wish all the love and best wishes possible. Just hope to hear from you maybe once, or any other people who read this if interested, please feel free to email me.[email protected], God bless Cal!

Hi Calpernia and Congratulations on all the stuff going on with the movie. It seemed they could have got someone a lot more feminine or female to portray you. The scenes Ive seen from the movie just still seems to hit the total mark but it is probably a lot better than a lot that have come out. Take care and keep up the great work. You are a good model for what TS's are. Much better than the 'Jerry Springer' types.
Take care.

I thought Lee Pace did an amazing job portraying Calpernia. i would think it’s very difficult for any man to play a part like that and I don’t think any man can do what he did. Let’s not forget that for his first major acting role, he took a chance playing that role. Some actors, it would have only ruined their celebrity image (like Patrick Swayze in “To Wong Foo…”). I have nothing more but the utmost respect for his acting abilities. He will go far in his career.

* Soldier’s Girl was the result of so many gambles paying off all at once… would it get funding? Would the director sign on? Would the writer sign on? Nothing ever turns out exactly like you might expect it to, but the cast really won me over and convinced me when I watched the film. I love Lee and Troy and the whole team so much… I can never thank them enough for working so hard to bring something so difficult to life!
* And I’m glad that the story has touched so many lives, trans, non-trans, straight, gay, bi, lesbian and everything else. Thank you all for caring and being so kind!

Dear Calpernia,
I am amazed by your story. I just purchased SG on DVD, and I watch it constantly, I always leave the room fifteen minutes before the end. (All of that is too tragic for me to cope with.) I felt as if I was going through all of that with Barry, due to my horrible childhood, and abuse. You are amazing, and the fact that you took a chance and became who you were MEANT to be, really increases my respect for you. My heart, and best wishes go out to you. May I one day be as focused as you. Thank You for the inspiration. Thank you for your story. You are an extremly fascinating individual, and a true lady. Take Care.
ALL IN ONE PEACE,
Kenny

Dear Calpernia….
A few years ago I saw you in Nashville and really enjoyed your performances. At the time I was a showgirl in Chattanooga TN. Later on I read in ETC. that your boyfriend had been killed. I cried for you gal. And for all us girls who even have to deal with these things. And for him. He did not deserve such treatment. Maybe one day people will just see us as who we are. Gifted people, who want to live a normal life, and be what we are.
Your inspiring to me. And I often visit your web page. I am in the beginnings of Transition….and just seeing how far you have come gives me hope.
Thanks Cal
Your Sister

Talofa Calpernia, greetings frm the south seas!
Congratulations on your loving, considerate and caring efforts. Your enduring legacy really has touched hearts, lives and has intergrated socities most elite and vibrant lifestyles! its such a beautiful tragic-love story that i’d love to go back again and see it, to be remminded to never ever to take life for granted and to appreciate everyone that comes your away. I’m extremely moved by your loss at the same time. However, having to be from a society where transvestites are common and renowned for, its an eye-opening issue for people with lack of association and confidence in how other people feel, respectively in this manner. its just brilliant and very well expressed! I REALLY DO LOVE IT AND I’VE NOTED ALL MY FRIENDS TO SEE IT! All the best to you! your site is a great showpiece. Thank you for your LIFE! Much Love & Respect from the heart of Polynesia, SAMOA. YOU’VE COME A LONG WAY, REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND YOU HAVE DONE THIS FOR EVERYONE. Thank you!
PS: you and Troy look stunning together! BEAUTIFUL!

I'm a transgendered teen and I'd like to say that you are an inspiration. Even facing such adversity you stood strong. I would just like you to know that of all the people in the world I admire you the most. I feel like I can relate to you because of all the problems we face. Keep being the wonderful person that you seem to be, and always know that this kid thinks the world of you.
Hugs and kisses,
Angel

Calpernia,
I’m happy that you have been able to conquer adversity and sadness, and have been able to reach your dreams. Always remember that you are beautiful and have a wonderful personality. I’m terribly sorry about Mr. Winchell and the ignorance of others, but know that your story together has touched my heart in many ways. I pray that the future will only bring you more happiness. God Bless and good luck!

That you found love and then had it taken is such a manner is a tragic event that can put almost anyone down.
That you rose above the fray, and displayed the dignity you did is a tribute to you, and your heart. That you managed to get the story in front of the world, is awsome.
That you have again found love makes my heart glad after all you have lived through.
I wish you all the best Lady. All the best.

Cal (if I may have the pleasure of calling you so)…First of all I have seen A Soldiers Girl a few times and I have to say that the film touched me and angered me all at the same time…Having lived with many transgender males while I attended FIT in NYC (Fashion Institute of Technology), I witnessed, first hand the hardships that many of them had to endure (yes even in such a cosmopolitan city such as New York). I developed many strong friendships with quite a few of these beautiful “women” and I found them to be some of the most loving, caring and giving creatures on this earth! I cherish my experiences, working as a dresser for transgender beauty competitions and also being the shoulder to cry on when they were in need. Thank you for having the strength and convention to help bring such a poignant story to the screen.
Madeleine
PS. I'm not the gushy fan type, but I have to admit, Troy Garity is extremely sexy! I wouldn’t kick him out of bed, not even for eating crackers!
