Calpernia by Andrea James at Christopher Oakley Sitting
Andrea and I were privleged to be included in artist Christopher Oakley‘s upcoming project, Faces of Change, which will be a huge series of painted portraits of LGBT folks and supporters who have influenced the movement in various ways. Here’s what Christopher says about it:
I’ve been photographing and painting portraits of leading (living) figures in the LGBT movement for an anticipated traveling exhibition intended to bring life, humanity and immediacy to our most beloved folks, those who have truly made a difference. The project will include activists, artists, entertainers, politicians, businesspeople, clergy and more, people from all walks of life, gay and straight–people who by their actions, their accomplishments and their very lives have helped move the world closer to equality.
Andrea has become quite a talented photographer in her own right, and after her sitting for some photographs by Christopher, she kindly took some of her own images of me. I’m very excited to see Christopher’s interpretation of us and the other participants in paint and canvas, but it’s great to see this more immediate photographic evidence of all the effort I put into hair and makeup for that day, too.
You can find more stuff at Andrea’s blog, Andrea’s Flickr photostream or keep up with her postings via Andrea’s Twitter account.

Oh wow, these new portrait pictures of you are not merely your magnificence artfully realized, they’ve captured the powerful expression of your passion, your elegance, and your powerful confidence. I mean these are supremely well-crafted photographs that will not fade with time. Your intensity captured but nicely balanced with a natural, intuitive feeling and purpose. I’ve already added a set of these images to my iMAC’s screen saver rotation. But please forgive me if I overstep your boundaries by asking if it’s too much to ask for a autographed picture I can download? They’re all great, but I want the really nice big portrait shot of you in the white lace dress. It would look so terrific and proud on my home office desktop. Hope I hear from you soon. Until next time, keep
smiling (as always) and be good.
