Calpernia Models for Margiela in BLEND Magazine via Luke Gilford

A few weeks ago, I got an exciting phone call from photographer Cal-Pal Luke Gilford asking if I’d like to be photographed by him for an upcoming retrospective of famed fashion designer Margiela (site) in Dutch magazine Blend (article). Luke brought in his friend, the beautiful and amazing songstress Our Lady J, to shoot with me. Luke’s work always feels like you’re seeing a still captured during some underground, exciting, dreamlike experience… Everyone is beautiful but no one is “robot pretty”, and the locations have a lived-in, organic history fraying out from not-quite-hidden edges. I’m hoping I can grab a few copies of the mag on stands before it’s sold out, but until then, here are a few screencaps from the net and a video from BLEND showing the whole magazine. =)

The margaritas are delicious, the food is yummy and the performers are truly funny. Los Angeles’ real “cool kids” always show up for these performances, come on out and have a good time!

Good news, everyone! I’ve joined the all new Hollywood edition of Jonny McGovern’s fabulously popular “Gay Pimpin’ with Jonny McGovern” podcast… one of the most subscribed gay podcasts on iTunes! After an incredible run of cycles recorded in New York City with Jonny’s hilarious friends there, Hollywood is on the menu with Jonny, me, Julie Goldman, Nadya Ginsburg, Brandy Howard, Michael Serrato and the inimitable Tammy! Plus the usual cavalcade of guests. Past guests have included RuPaul, Martha Wash, Junior Vasquez, and my favorite, Bernadette Cooper!
The first episode debuts MIDNIGHT Tuesday night August 31st on iTunes. That means on Tuesday night at Midnight it will be online, so most of you will get it on Wednesday morning. Here’s the link:
