Hey Cal-pals! My friend Patrick Wolf has released his latest album, Lupercalia, today on iTunes UK. I don’t recommend music very often here on my blog… I listen to a lot of popular stuff that everyone already knows about, or stuff that’s so personal that I don’t expect others to go for it like I do. Patrick’s music is the best of those two worlds.

If you know me at all, you can probably guess why I took to his music immediately: Patrick plays a mind-boggling array of acoustic instruments like violin, viola, piano and harp. He has a rich, gorgeous and sexy singing voice. And he writes his own music, about his own life and things that matter to him.

Just give his songs a listen and I’m sure you’ll find something you like. As a lifelong slave in the cult of Kate Bush and a fan of Tori Amos, The Cure, Nick Cave, balladeers, troubadours, Jane Siberry, Suzanne Vega, Amanda Palmer and others, I took to Patrick’s music right away and I hope you will, too.

Directed by Andrea James, this music video was incredibly fun to participate in. Cal-pal Matthew McPeck has a gorgeous thematic pop album called “Compass Rose” available now (ORDER MATTHEW’s ALBUM HERE), and he is the producer behind several of my songs like “Stunning (Matthew McPeck Death by Disco Mix)“, “Next! (Matthew McPeck Mix)” and FOUR new upcoming dance tracks(!!!).

Born in 1990?! Ahhhhhh!

emmy Curl discovered in 2001, that melodies can come out from the vibrating strings of a guitar and that the voice can have a great use at the same time. Born in 1990, Emmy grew in a artistic environment that influenced her in all areas; painting, music, photography, etc.. Today she’s completing her musical project, where she publishes, masters and writes herself at home..
She attended the Conservatory of Vila Real for three years learning guitar and one year of initiation to Lyrical Singing..
With 11 years she wrote her first song, “Keep Going.” To be followed by a musical spring, all with original lyrics. Since 2007, emmy has been writing more songs, having today more than 30 original songs.
Her songs relate to the transcendent and ethereal, suggested by her soft voice the backing vocals soaked in reverb or by the floating arrangements of the guitar. The lyrics relate to stories about the sea and the mountain, human relationships and love, either imaginary or desired. Even though her songs are rather “naked” (musically speaking) she hopes to have deep downtempo beats joining and mixing in with her work, as well as violins and cello orchestrations..
Emmy Curl and Oscar (her guitar) has performed all over the country: Fnac – Algarve, several bars in Lisbon, Casa da Música – Porto (with Reflect) and often in the Café Concerto at the Vila Real Theater…

Nascida em 1990, emmy cresceu num ambiente artístico que a influenciou em todas as áreas, desde a pintura, fotografia, música, desenho, etc. Hoje continua a gravar mais canções no seu próprio estúdio, onde ela mesma edita, masteriza e produz.
Frequentou em 2005 o Conservatório Regional de Vila Real por três anos em guitarra clássica e um ano de iniciação em Canto Lírico.
Aos 11 anos de idade compôs a sua primeira canção oficial “Keep Going”, uma ponte para a catadupa musical que se sucedeu, todas com letras originais. A partir de 2007, a sua criatividade expandiu-se, acelerou-se e amadureceu conseguindo ter já mais de 30 músicas originais!

As letras falam do mar e da montanha, das relações humanas e o amor, sendo, segundo a compositora “a única coisa real” apesar da possibilidade de serem desejados ou imaginados.
