Art From Mila and Jayna: Calpernia Eats the Bell Witch’s Soul
Oct 14th
My musings yesterday on letting go of childhood fears in the face of adult realities attracted the keen imaginations of the fantastically talented girls over at the Transponder podcast, Jayna and Mila Pavlin. Everyone knows them for their insightful podcasts over at trans-ponder.com, but I also really connected with their artistic side when I followed Jayna’s always surprising stream of character drawings, and Mila and I discussed a shared love of horror/sci-horror pioneer H.P. Lovecraft (see Mila’s gorgeous “Rats in the Walls” illustration here).
I received this lovely illustration of me about to dine on the soul of Kate Batts, the Bell Witch of Tennessee, this morning and I LOVE it! Gobble gobble!

Cal-Pal Jer Ber Jones on LA Times Cover for “Telekinesis”
Apr 7th

Jer Ber Jones by Austin Young
Cal-pal Jer Ber Jones is on the cover of the LA Times’ Guide, which has a great piece on her/his monthly Telekinesis cabaret (which I perform in regularly on various months). The upcoming “Tales of Wicked Hare” show is covered here. The show is mostly sold out, but you MAY still be able to get tickets for the Thursday showing. I will be appearing in the upcoming June 2009 edition of Telekinesis.
This is one Easter bunny that should probably be kept away from the children.
Underground cabaret Telekinesis, the brainchild of gender-bending performance artist Robbie Daniels Jr., is back at the Cavern Club Theater for an evening of aberrant performance art that’s unusual even for the L.A. art scene.
Since going monthly in January, each Telekinesis show has explored a deviant theme, ranging from “Big Love”-inspired polygamy to the March of Dames, a twisted transsexual telethon. This month’s show, taking place this week at Silver Lake hangout Casita del Campo, dives into the macabre Victorian side of Easter with “Tales of Wicked Hare.”
Followup: THE REVIEWS ARE IN AND THEY LOVED IT!
