Sundance News
* The Sundance website has its page up about Soldier’s Girl. They spelled Addams wrong, but it’s a great writeup. Check it out HERE. (You have to click on the words Soldier’s Girl)
* Here is the website of the man who composed the movie’s soundtrack. The music is absolutely gorgeous: Jan kaczmarek.
Does anyone remember Corey Haim?
* Im sitting here watching a SUPER AWFUL movie called “Fever Lake” made in 1997 with him and thinking, “Why won’t they show his face?! The camera keeps panning away or theres something hanging right in front of it! So of course I assume he’s got ahold of the “Connection Curse” (the Connection is a theater a used to perform at in Nashville). The Connection Curse is Crack.
* All is confirmed when I do a quick search of the most reliable z-list celebrity aficionados. Check out Corey Haim SELLING HIS TEETH ON E-BAY!!! I’m dead serious. Not Joking. Wait an extra second for the pictures to load. They tell the real story. Check it out.
* Unfortunately my ex-husband Mario Lopez is also in this movie. He is actually doing some decent things these days. Ahh Mario…
Candy Coma
* I’m pretty well known for my love of candy… I eat several candy bars a day and people used to tip me garlands of hershey taped together when I was onstage. Well apparently all those warnings were true… there is such a thing as too much...
Girls who want to be boys…
* Just read an interesting bit in a UK news source… it seems in Iran, where women are not allowed to go out in public alone and must wear those heavy covering garmets, some rebel girls are getting short haircuts and posing as boys. This isn’t done lightly… in their culture, a woman’s long hair is her crowning glory. Usually they’ve been growing it out since childhood, and cutting it off is a big time commitment to their ideals. So these women shave their heads down to male standards and get into “male drag” in a country where flaunting the sexual roles can be punishable by prison or even stoning. The barber who was cutting their hair has been arrested, and I’m sure things are not going well for him. Just think… right this second he is sitting in a prison cell. Right now. For transgressing a gender boundary.
* Not to say they are transgendered. Most likely just wanting more freedom in a country where men tend to hold all the cards. But interesting nonetheless. The article is here . Aren’t we lucky we can dress and be the way we want? Sure, we have our hurdles here, but it’s inspiring to see other gender pioneers making their lives happen, despite the danger and cost.
Hmm…
* I actually got out of bed at 830am today! Wow! I usually work all night until about 6am and then fall into a coma until 5pm or so. Unhealthy? Yes. Am I going to change? No! Ha!
* But occasionally the hours overlap and over time the wakeup glacially shifts forward until it comes around in sych with the real world’s. Thus today I rose with the sun, walked to Denny’s and sat amongst many older Jewish couples having breakfast. I was the eye in the storm of harried waitresses running their many returned orders of improperly toasted white bread and “this is too bitter!” grapefruit juice. Somehow I got to thinking about the famous Keane paintings, and found THIS. You might enjoy…
* Last night I went to the LA Gender Center’s pre-Christmas party at the Abbey. The Abbey is a really nice gay spot here, that is half open-air (very LA) and half inside, with high lodge-house wood ceilings and curtained booths inside near a fireplace that are actually beds instead of booths. They have a huge gourmet dessert case, so I can get surrogate-luvin’ and black coffee while Kory fights off admirers. The party was nice and everyone had an air of commitment and kindness about them. I admire the women who have been sort of tireless footsoldiers for the cause. I never fit in well at parties though, so I said hi to Annelise and then went back to my eclair.
* Things are going well in my personal life. I might have a car soon… maybe by the end of the week! Its like Im sixteen all over again, except this time Reagan isn’t in office and I can wear dresses. Woo hoo!
If you ever think you’re weird, remember…
* There are always the Ganguro girls.
Quote -> “GANGURO “look” is to have dyed blonde or brown hair, plucked eyebrows, tan skin, mini-skirt, cool shoes, “ganguro gal” are the brownskin girls, “gonguro gal” are the more deep brownskin, “Yamanba gal” is silver or white or brown hair, brown or hard-drown face, heavy makeup or panda makeup. “Yamanba gal” include “Ganguro gal” and “Gonguro gal"”.
The shakes
* Woo-wee! Busy busy at Camp Calpernia. I’m still living on Perrier and Kix, working all night. The makeup vid is coming along, and preparations for Sundance progress… Soldier’s Girl premieres on January 20th, but I’m going to try to attend the entire festival.
* So today I was hit with small-town-blonde-in-Hollywood syndrome. That’s where a girl who was somewhat of a diva in her hometown moves to Hollywood and expereinces the somewhat crushing realization that she’s one of many. Ha ha, oh well. I’m not the first and won’t be the last to experience this, in Hollywood or any other big city. Besides, I’m not even blonde. We all have our own individual things to contribute, and I do whatever I do because it’s fun and exciting for me. More power to all the others as well! One thing to learn is, another person’s success does not mean your failure.
* What sparked this was realizing how many TS women are out there making websites, writing autobiographies, getting into acting, and generally living life actively. Even driving around today I saw at least four TS women walking around on the streets (although at least two were walking the streets if you know what I mean.) Sometimes being TS you start thinking, “Being TS makes me special and different and I can just rely on that alone to get me noticed.” But more and more we are being featured in the media and making inroads into normal life and the workplace. And that’s wonderful. It challenges girls like to me go past relying on their uniquess as a ts woman and do more. Not that I totally rely on it, ha ha. But I’ll add that to the million new things I learn every day. I think a great woman once said, “I try to believe eleven impossible things before breakfast.” I take it a step farther, and try to do at least one impossible thing every day.
* Speaking of other TS women in the media... Here ya go.
