* Woo-wee! Busy busy at Camp Calpernia. I’m still living on Perrier and Kix, working all night. The makeup vid is coming along, and preparations for Sundance progress… Soldier’s Girl premieres on January 20th, but I’m going to try to attend the entire festival.
* So today I was hit with small-town-blonde-in-Hollywood syndrome. That’s where a girl who was somewhat of a diva in her hometown moves to Hollywood and expereinces the somewhat crushing realization that she’s one of many. Ha ha, oh well. I’m not the first and won’t be the last to experience this, in Hollywood or any other big city. Besides, I’m not even blonde. We all have our own individual things to contribute, and I do whatever I do because it’s fun and exciting for me. More power to all the others as well! One thing to learn is, another person’s success does not mean your failure.
* What sparked this was realizing how many TS women are out there making websites, writing autobiographies, getting into acting, and generally living life actively. Even driving around today I saw at least four TS women walking around on the streets (although at least two were walking the streets if you know what I mean.) Sometimes being TS you start thinking, “Being TS makes me special and different and I can just rely on that alone to get me noticed.” But more and more we are being featured in the media and making inroads into normal life and the workplace. And that’s wonderful. It challenges girls like to me go past relying on their uniquess as a ts woman and do more. Not that I totally rely on it, ha ha. But I’ll add that to the million new things I learn every day. I think a great woman once said, “I try to believe eleven impossible things before breakfast.” I take it a step farther, and try to do at least one impossible thing every day.
* Speaking of other TS women in the media... Here ya go.
* Well I sent off the book today… I have HERE a picture of the cover and a clip of me reading the first paragraph! It will be available for ordering online in 4-5 weeks. Woo hoo!
Frenemies
Categories:* I was thinking today of some of my old showgirl compatriots… girls who I worked with night-in and night-out for many years, sharing 3-pound orange rhinestone earrings and pink thi-high boots… fighting over the latest Britney and Christina singles… laughing about men… crying about men…
* And it all depends on the memory. Some make me smile and some make me boil and seethe. What do you call someone with whom you go through some of the hardest, most exciting years of your life? It’s alot like boot camp… you’re forced to end up liking the people because you all suffer together, regardless of their faults. But the faults don’t go away. Friends… enemies…
* I call them Frenemies. Ha ha, look out Websters, I’m in the word-making business now.
* But today I say, to all my frenemies out there, I miss you girls and can’t wait to come visit again, dish the old days and be re-amazed at your beauty and your bitchiness all over again!
* Sorry I haven’t written much lately… I am in a time crunch to get my book published before Sundance, not to mention the makeup video. I send everything off Monday for publication, and hopefully the book will be available from Amazon.com or Barnes and Boble (BN.com) by January 15. I’m so excited… Publishing a book is something of a dream for a girl whose parent’s told her not to go to college. I’ll keep you posted! As a special treat at the end of the month, I’m going to email a sample chapter to everyone who is a member of my Diary. Membership is free, just register by clicking the “register” button above! Till then, nose to the grindstone…
* Poor Roomie… we were coming back from a night out on the town and slid into El Pollo Loco for a snack before bed. Suddenly screeeee! a horrible sound started coming up from under the car… we pulled out of line and took a look…
* The pipe to the muffler had rusted through and fallen to the ground. The engine was chugging, we couldn’t possibly drive that way, and I was in a cute little denim dress from Guess (Santa?) and my camel-colored 9 West pumps. What’s a girl to do!?! I shrugged off my faux-fur trimmed BeBe Jacket (I’m really not a label-queen, I just think it’s funny, ha ha) and squirmed up under the car. My Roomie grabbed a VCR cable from the back and we tied up the long pipe until we could get home. We were kinda bummed because it brought back all that hellishness from our roadtrip to LA
* The next morning (and by morning I mean 6pm) we hoofed it to Home Despot and picked up some Aluminum tape and a plumbing cuff. I hopped back under the car and had it all fixed in a jiff. Yay!
* I really need to get a car. =/
* Big news... First of all, my mother wrote my name for the first time ever. She left off the “H”, but who cares! This doesn’t mean that she’s cool with everything or will even call me by it, but she had to write it if she wanted a package to get to me. Quite a milestone.
* Next… Today I received the news that the Showtime movie Soldier’s Girl, as yet unreleased, has been accepted into the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. What exactly this is going to mean I’m not sure, but stay tuned for more information as it becomes available, and expect reports from the festival when I attend to make sure that people understand the importance of this story.
* As some may already know, a major tragedy occured in my life in 1999 when my boyfriend was murdered by two fellow soldiers. I wrote about it in more detail here. It is a very personal subject for me, and one I don’t discuss without great consideration. The film is about our relationship and the events that followed. I have been quietly working on this project with them for a few years, a labor of love. The movie is going to put another human face to the senseless horror of hate crime and I have high hopes that it will inspire some people and also foster some changes in attitude towards TS women and the men who love them.
* I haven’t been writing as much as I’d like in the last few days. I want to get a digital camera so I can post more pictures of my adventures, so look for that to come… The administrative side of things is progressing along and keeping me busy behind the scenes. I think loyal readers are in for cool stuff in the months to come. Plus it’s gonna be holiday season, so we can all dish about our freaky family interactions.
* The site has been getting really good traffic, which I’m excited about. I had to quadruple my bandwidth (along with the monthly fee
) today. If you’re interested in making a donation to help me keep things humming along here feel free… ha ha (I know 99.9% of you can’t afford donations any more than I can, ha ha, so don’t feel bad) but all-in-all I’m happy as a clam!
* By the by… remember that Mountain Dew commercial where a hot boy driving a car flips in mid-air so the boy can snatch a can of Mt. Dew away from someone and drink it? I found him online… he’s a model and his promo page is here. Enjoy!
