You’d probably never know it to look at these photos, but this Marie Antoinette had a bit of cake that definitely disagreed with her. You can see the other photos here, taken by the illustrious Andrea James.

I’ve been suffering from a terrible bout of what I’ve self-diagnosed as “food poisoning” for the last few days… Headaches, stomach aches, cramps and fever that all left me fairly bed-ridden in agony. Probably richly deserved for some of my many minor misdeeds, but unpleasant nonetheless.

In this terrible economy, even show-folk can’t skip work, though, so a fortunate upturn in my condition allowed me to pull it together enough to wave my magic wand and transform into a somewhat Victorian socialite and pop down to Miss Kitty’s for a night of fun and hosting.

If you didn’t know, I have the pleasure of being the hostess and MC at Miss Kitty’s Parlour, a weekly club event held at The Dragonfly, located on Santa Monica Blvd at Wilcox Ave. It’s great, because I get to relive the fun I had as a hostess, performer and MC back in my Nashville days, but even though there are some similarities between my drag showgirl work and this, here I’m walking in the footsteps of the original Miss Kitty, who is not a trans woman or a drag queen. I’m not sure why that matters to me, or whether it should, but it makes me feel good to know that I’m doing a woman’s job, and not a drag queen’s job, because as cool as drag is, I’m definitely not a drag queen.

I just dress like one sometimes, ha ha.

I hardly touched the booze last night, as I was doubled over with painful cramps backstage between acts, but I did do a shot of Jägermeister on stage to get the crowd going. I’m feeling much better today (the morning after), but I’m supposed to go to the birthday party of a certain wild-and-crazy underground GLBT celebrity tonight… the temptations will be many. I hope I can behave!

Ok, so somehow a lot of the cheering didn’t come through on this recording… it might have been near a speaker or something, so alot of the ambient noise got filtered out (yeah, that’s it! Ha ha) And yes, my butt looks a LOT less appealing in this video (shot from way below) that it looked in the photos shot from the side. But wow, I had a great time, and the crowd really warmed up toward the end, and on into my second song (”I Look Good”).

I can never forget my loving “aunts” and “uncles” and “brothers” and “sisters” in the community! I’m like Marilyn on the Munsters, I may seem different but I fit right in when it comes down to the nitty gritty!
