* This weekend I have two modeling gigs for local designers in the Goth scene. Here’s a pic of me in a lovely black and white latex gown by Fierce Couture.
* The show tonight was on Sex Addiction, which was a fun topic. I got a little more into the groove of things tonight, and the hair people gave me a cute retro flip that I really liked. Someday I will learn to style my own hair…
* I was delighted to hear that world-famous showgirl Mimi Marks was in the studio to tape On Q! Live, and we had a great time catching up. We knew each other from the pageant circuit and my old showgirl days. She recently won such pageants as the World’s Most Beautiful Transsexual pageant 2004, and Thailand’s Miss International Queen 2005 pageant.
Queer Edge on QTV
* Just got in from a fun interview with Omarosa on QTV’s show “Queer Edge”. Video clip coming soon!
* Whew! Just wrapped two days on the set of Southland Tales, the new movie from writer/director Richard Kelly. He directed Donnie Darko, which is only one of my FAVORITE MOVIES EVAR!!! Richard said that the film is going to be a “strange hybrid” of the sensibilities of Andy Warhol and Philip K. Dick. So although my role is very very small, I was thrilled to be a part of thea movie that has potential to be a cult hit.
* In my scenes, I am a reveler on the maiden voyage of the “Mega Zepplin” who gets stood up by her date. You’ll see me in the familiar-to-regular-readers green pixie gown t of mine, as “The Rock” and his female companion walk past the hostess and into the main VIP party room on the MegaZepplin (I just like saying Mega Zepplin). I’m tapping my invitation impatiently, and the camera swings around me and stays right on me as they pass. Later you can see me behind Nora Dunn as she interacts with an enemy.
* More info as it comes, but this was a lot of fun. I can’t wait to see the movie!
“Homespun”
* Well, I am in the process of putting together my reel and received a clip of me reading the personal monologue I wrote for our VDay LA 2004 event. I’ve put the video up at the link above. I also included my six seconds of fame on the 100th episode of CSI (their most watched episode ever!) with a little humorous twist of my own.
* The monologue is very personal, and it’s hard for me to watch myself read it for many reasons… I know that some actors can hardly stand to watch themselves on screen, and I’m definitely one of those people. I simultaneously can’t look away and can’t stop flinching at the imagined slings and arrows of some critical shadow audience tearing me apart. But it’s all very thrilling to me, and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’ve always found some kind of stage and jumped onto it ready to perform.
* I plan to put up more video clips as they come along, so stay tuned and get ready for an amazing 2005 for Deep Stealth, Andrea and me!
CSI: 100
* Well, I had pretty much decided that the episode of CSI was not meant to be, but then I started getting calls earlier this week from the show asking if I would at least be able to come in and do a non speaking role. Since some words had been whited out on the script I read and I wasn’t sure of the storyline, I had a lot of misgivings, but it was pretty much a moot point in any case since my car was dead and the show shoots an hour away in Santa Clarita, CA. I regretfully told them I had no way out there, so I wouldn’t be able to participate, but after several more calls from the show we had finally worked out that they would send a ride for me and take me back home, plus I would be doing an interview with Entertainment Tonight as an actress (not as a “Soldier’s Girl” subject), which I really wanted to do.
* I got up early today and the director’s assistant picked me up. She was a delightful, pretty young woman and we chatted about transgender participation in television and life in general over the course of the hour long ride to the studios.
* Once on set I went through the typical wardrobe and makeup routine, pillaged the very nice craft services table (an espresso/latte machine was put to the test) and then hung out with the other actors. Dr. Marci Bowers (a star of our VDay production) was a consultant on the episode and was playing a clinic counselor, and there were a few other women in the community who I had ran into in some way or other since I’ve been here.
* I met the director of this episode, Richard Lewis. He was very kind, professional and intense, as a director should be. He made me feel at home before going back to the business at hand. Most of the day was spent setting up the lighting for the scenes (every time they switch to a different shot, the huge and complicated lighting equipment has to be moved out of the frame and readjusted to make everything look right again) and rehearsing. Then each shot is done several times, so the director will have choices once it gets to the editing phase. Marg Helgenberger looked amazing, of course. She had such beautiful strawberry blonde haircolor, it made me think about being blonde for a second or two. The other actors were there as well, and everyone was very relaxed and professional.
* A supersweetie brunette working behind the scenes on the show came up and said hello about halfway through, mentioning that she had been at the Sundance premiere of “Soldier’s Girl”. We started chatting, and it turns out I had been at the premiere of her Sundance movie, too! She played an ultrasexy Latina vixen in the jungles of South America. She introduced me to other people on set, and soon I was bonding with a cool crew of new friends.
* Then it was lunch time! It turns out that this was the 100th episode of CSI, which is a big deal (few shows make it past 15-20 episodes), so they were throwing an enormous lunch for the cast and crew, with all-I-could-eat hand-cut steak, Maine lobster with drawn butter, and stacks and stacks of SUSHI! I love sushi! (and steak and Maine lobster with drawn butter). I ate as much food as I could possibly cram into my craw, but didn’t have any of the champagne that was at every table. After the food had been pretty well decimated, a few people came up to speak at a big platform, including Les Moonves and Jerry Bruckheimer!!
* After lunch, we shot the scene I was in. I am a participant in a group session at a clinic for transwomen, and I don’t have any lines. I’m wearing a brown and pink striped top and brown skirt, holler if you see me! Ha ha. Afterwards I talked to Marg a little and she asked me to send her a copy of “Soldier’s Girl”.
* Overall it was a nice, long day and I was glad to get back home and soak in a hot bath when it was over. I’ll be looking forward to seeing the episode, although I’m not sure exactly how it’s all going to come down in trans-political terms. Everyone seemed to have the best of intentions, so I will hope for the best.

* Well. Where to begin…
* First of all, we didn’t win any Globes. “Soldier’s Girl” was up for three: Best Picture (TV), Best Actor (TV) and Best Supporting Actor (TV). But that’s ok… being nominated will show filmmakers that they can produce quality, realistic transgender stories and be rewarded for it in Hollywood. “Angels in America” was great, and if we had had their budget, I’m sure we’d have given them a run for their money.
* But first things first: When the car came `round to pick me up at 1pm, I was still in the shower. I had spent the morning racing around to find a slip and completely wasted two hours of valuable time, so I ended up making the chauffer wait for an hour in our driveway while I did my hair and makeup and got dressed. I didn’t feel too bad though, because he would be waiting in a driveway all day long anyway, while I was inside the Beverly Hilton hotel. I had a terrible time choosing what to wear… I had a gorgeous black dress from Patty, two dresses I had made (a white lace scoop-back and a lavender mermaid gown with cape), plus a deep pink Lilli Rubin gown positively dripping with sequins. I can never decide until the very last minute, and as I stood there in my undies looking the choices over, I decided on… NONE OF THEM! I ran into the deep-storage closet and pulled out another hand-made gown instead: my leopard-print corset-gown with a small train and fitted, extra-cropped bolero jacket. It was a little exotic looking, a little retro-looking, but it fit like a dream and was very Jessica Rabbit. I was surpised that it zipped right up (I’m not the tiny waif I was when I made it a few years ago!)
* So I hopped into the car and we zipped out to the hotel just in time to make the 2:30 Champagne Brunch. Remembering what a mess getting into the Emmys was, I expected long delays, but I think a combination of coming early and just good organization got us right in on time. There were very few people there, so I whisked right in. I had heard earlier in the week that there was a big shortage of tickets to the Golden Globes in Hollwood, and that some agents and other Hollywood players were paying up to $20,000 for a ticket. On the ride over I looked at the ticket in my hand and thought “Mmm… $20,000...” But no! I would not miss this night for any reason. And anyway, nobody offered me $20,000 for the ticket in the first place. Mmm… $20,000...
* There were numerous velvet-rope mazes to negotiate, with masses of regular people behind them ready with cameras of all types. Paparazzi and media people were inside the ropes with me, and I got a few looks because I was so tall and strikingly dressed, but no one took my picture. Which was fine by me!
* I made my way into the gorgeous main room and saw the stage all set up with a very elegant design. Our table was right in the center line, only about three tables away from the stage! Right behind us was the teleprompter screen, so everyone on stage had to pretty much stare directly at me for the whole show! AND guess who was sitting at the Showtime table in front of us? Barbra Striesand! Like 5 feet away from me! And guess who was sitting three feet away on my right? Jennifer Garner! Ok, let me just go ahead and say this now… I saw in person most every movie and television star you can think of!
* I sat right next to Jane (Fonda), with Troy on her right, and Ron Nyswaner (the writer) on my left. Lee was right next to him. Frank was across from me. It was great! Eventually everyone got there and we all sat down and started on our delicious meal.
* I had had my first taste of Champagne 25 days ago on New Year’s Eve, which I didn’t like, so I decided I would have another half-glass just to see what really nice Champagne tasted like. It was good! I only drank about half of the half glass, though. The dinner started with an Asian salad with sushi, and then a delish steak for the main course. There were coffee cups on the table, but we never got dessert or coffee! =( boo hoo, poor me, I know, ha ha…
* Jane and I got to catch up, and everyone was excited and talking. We pretty much knew we weren’t going to win against "Angels in America," but I was just glad that we had come this far. I think that the nominations for SG will encourage other people to be brave and make films about the community that are similarly realistic and non-exploitative. It was great fun seeing the cast of Sex and the City squeeze past our table, Ellen Degeneres fidgeting across the aisle (I got to shake her hand later), Catherin Zeta Jones flitting up and down the stairs next to our table, Christina Ricci running by in her lovely gown, Charlize Theron walking by, Nicholas Cage looking intense on his way to his seat, Scarlett Johannsen picking up the hem of her nude corset gown to make it down the steps, and on and on and on…
* The show ran smoothly and quickly…
