Catch Up

February 12th, 2004

* Ok, a lot has been going on and I haven’t been keeping my diary up very well! But the Golden Globes should have been enough fun to keep everyone busy for awhile… onward and upward, though!

* Prepping for V-Day LA 2004 has been a double-full-time job, with Andrea and I working 16 hour days, 7 days a week. Luckily we have met the most amazing team of helpers, women from the community and supporters of the community who have really, really come through. In no particular order: Margaux, Dr. Becky, Gwen, Triana, Deb, Jane P., Kiki, and so many others working more directly with Andrea and whose names I’ll add in. And the amazing cast! And the volunteers like Hope and others who were right there at the start.

* So last night, who should come into town but my old friend David France! He wrote the New York Times article about the events in 1999 that sparked national interest in Barry’s case and added a lot of political power to the fight for justice and understanding. He is in town reading from his new book, “Our Fathers”, a very well received look at the priest abuse scandal in the Catholic church. Compelling reading.

* Andrea and I put aside our work, slapped on a little makeup and went out to “A Different Light” bookstore, the GLBT bookstore here on Santa Monica. We had a nice chat with David, who I haven’t seen in at least two years, and then he read from his book. There was a good crowd of people, some of whom were actually ex-priests and theological scholars.

* Afterward, David and Andrea and I went down to The Abbey for some libation… I had a diabetic-coma-inducing slab of chocolate cake (with at least four layers of sugar-icing an inch thick each) and black coffee. Mmm!!

* Triana met us with the newly minted SPROSH pins (”Supreme Princess of the Royal Order of the Silver Heart,” a little tongue-in-cheek club for members of the Discussion Forum here) which were lovely. Andrea and I put ours on right away!

I just saw the movie Soldier’s Girl and I was so very appalled that the hate is so intense, truly I’m sorry regardless of how long ago it was I believe it’s something that has to continue to hurt ,

I’m sorry and if ever I can support in some way I hope you will write me

    Calpernia:

I’m diabetic and just thinking of that chocolate cake is putting me into complete shock!! lol.

Anyhow, I hope you had fun meeting your old friend. I think you need a rest with all the work you been doing. Take a nap on Kimmie!! Well, not on Kimmie exactly but, oh hell, you know what I mean, lol.
    Kisses

Geez, I hope you had some of that cake for me, too! I’m not a diabetic but I think I went into sugar shock, too! I haven’t had good chocolate cake since I was little! There’s a word for people like you who can eat that kind of stuff all the time and keep that great figure! LOL!

Some of the titles for the monologues are outrageous! I wish I could be there, Is this a one time performance only? I’m sure it’s gonna’ be just fabulous! Are you expecting a full house? Do you have friends coming into town for it? Other than Jane, are other celebs planning to attend, too? Give us the dish!

That article that David wrote is very interesting. Very detailed and I’m sure it was difficult for you to open yourself up to him like that.

What is this world coming to?! First “Bennifer” break up and now Ken and Barbie! (I know this has nothing to do with anything on your website, Calpernia, but I figured you’ve been working so hard on this upcoming V-Day event that you needed a minute to laugh! Hope it worked!) Hey, at least we know that Barbie has a new boyfriend already (the slut!)…Blaine the buff Australian surfer dude!
