Transamerican Love Story - Day 2 After Press Release

November 30th, 2007

imageWow, people can be cruel! Ha ha, that’s no news flash, especially to me, but sometimes you forget until the point is driven home again. Yesterday I did an interview with ABC News for their website, which turned out Ok. The comment threads are already getting kinda vicious, though. It’s amazing to me how many people can look at a photo of me in a white dress and light makeup, and see “PERVERTED SEX!!!” So many things spring to mind, like what about shows like Nip/Tuck and so many other top rated television shows? They are packed to the gills with heterosexual characters who have bizarre perverted heterosexual sex. But significantly fewer people decry them for it. “Won’t someone please think of the children! Why is television (my default babysitter) forcing this sicko ‘gay’ sex down our children’s throats?!” What about the slavering crypto-pedophiles who eagerly count down to every Disney Channel starlet’s 18th birthday with a sex-minded wink and nudge? What about… what about… oh, whatever. It’s a no-win argument, really. That doesn’t mean I won’t still have thoughts about it, and write about it occasionally, but I do realize the Sisyphean task of countering the alarmist cries of dum-dums.

Thankfully, there have been lots and lots of supportive comments on various sites as well. I believe that, for the most part, when people actually see me or meet me in real life, they will have to struggle a lot harder to think “PERVERTED SEX!!!” I’ll be too busy cracking jokes and being cooool, baby! wink

Oh, and just to remind everyone, here’s my breakdown of the hypocrisy that I find so annoying amongst certain few hetero people:

Yea, people can be so ignorant and cruel! mad

It gets me really depressed and angry whenever I read some of the mean comments people have written about Calpernia during the past 24 hours on other websites. downer

But it also reminds me that one of the reasons why Calpernia and Andrea came to Hollywood in the first place is because they wanted to help change these negative attitudes!

Thank you, Michael. You mustn’t worry too much about it all, people are just like that when they can comment anonymously on things. Everyone in the media, from Angelina Jolie (who is stunningly beautiful and a saintly global activist) to Jessica Simpson to Rayven Symone all have viciously cruel things posted about them alongside the supportive things online.

To be honest, some of the things are so over the top that Andrea and I have been dying laughing over them. I gotta have a sense of humor, that’s all I can do! =)
