Frontiers Magazine publishes my Chrisitian Siriano article!
Frontiers Magazine was kind enough to publish a new version of my original piece expressing my unhappiness with the Chrisitian Siriano catchphrase “hot tranny mess”, and his subsequent assertion that trans people were the “white trash trailer park people of the GLBT world”.

The killing thing is, he would make SUCH A CUTE TRANSSEXUAL WOMAN! The slightest, merest hint of lipstick… even a single atom… and he would look completely like a cute little fashion grrrl. I’m actually jealous…

First of all, Kudos on all the writing you seem to have gotten done recently. I was hoping I would be reading more from you since ‘Mark 947′ and I haven’t been disappointed.
Your article interested me. The term ‘hot tranny mess’ circulated amongst all of my friends, both gay and straight (blame television), and it was fun for a while using the term without realising the potentially hurtful literal meaning.
In the same way I might call my straight friends ‘breeders’ or refer to their children as ‘crotch dropplings’ (i’m sure most of these terms have come from the internet..!), and on occasion have been affectionately known as ‘fag’, your article makes me realise that I naively forgot the vast majority of ill informed people out there who may actually use the term in its innately derogatory manner. Evidence of this lies in gems such as the ’snip-tuck brigade’, which is wholly unacceptable.
If it is any consolation, my friends and I have now moved onto calling things simply ‘a hot mess’. Although the etymology is not exactly politically correct, it is a rather nifty description that can be used on most things from Courtney Love to my broken kettle.
