Let Them Eat Cake: Calpernia’s Latest Blog for Psychology Today
July 29th, 2008

Hey kids, my latest blog is up at Psychology Today. I kinda tear into the whole debate stirred up by my “Bad Questions” video, but this time a mostly hetero audience will be reading it, so make sure you pop over and support me in the comments thread. You know how brutal they can be! =)
Thank you!

I like your Psychology Today blog posts, Calpernia. (I think your “Let Them Eat Cake” post was smart and well written.) I’m glad that Psychology Today lets you post blog entries on their website!
And I think the comments under your Psychology Today blog posts have been mostly positive, since the average reader of Psychology Today is probably a lot smarter than the average YouTube user. Of course bread mold is also a lot smarter than the average YouTube user!
(I bet a jelly donut would probably score a lot higher on an IQ test than any of the dum dums who post stupid comments on YouTube!)
I liked the lack of ’sugarcoating’ in your Let Them Eat Cake blog. A very straightforward and erudite article that ‘tells it like it is.’
NO HUMAN BEING EVER HAS TO JUSTIFY THEIR OWN EXSISTANCE!!!!!!
When I started my transition I flat out refused to offer any explaination to anyone, including my close family. I thought it better to let my actions speak for themselves. Who cares why I felt I needed to change my body? I was doing what I needed to do to be happy and survive. A right EVERYONE is entitled to! I think the reason most of my family was supportive of my transition was because of the simple fact that I was becoming happy, confident, and independent.
When it comes to the general population out there, most people are sadly ignorant of our ISSUES. If someone I happen across in everyday has A PROBLEM with me exsisting, it is just that, ‘THEIR PROBLEM.’ I don’t waste my time getting defensive. If I’m in line at the bank for instance, and some guy starts making comments about me. I remain calm and dignified with my head up and look over at him like he’s crazy without saying a word. After that everyone is staring at him and what an asshole he is making of himself. Clearly, he’s the one with ISSUES not me!
It’s not my job to justify myself and educate every stranger I run across. I certainly wouldn’t expect that of anybody I met on the street who looks different to me. However, education about trans issues is important because that will foster tolerant attitudes in the future. But that is better done in the classroom and through the various media like you said.
What it all come down to is this…we are all human beings and ARE entitled to be treated accordingly.
Nice work Calpernia!
