I have actually been diagnosed as intersexed (partial AIS) but I didn't
find that out until after transitioning so the people who knew me during
that process consider me TS. While I really am pretty stealth about it, I
don't do it out of feeling ashamed, I just do it more out of a desire to
avoid confrontation and because stuff from pre-transition is traumatic
enough to not want to casually discuss. I usually only talk about it if I
develop a high level of trust with someone or if I'm getting into a long
term relationship.

A driving factor is that when certain people find out they can act funny
and I really don't like that feeling. When someone treats me like an "ex
man" it really annoys me to no end, especially since they treated me as
a girl before finding out about it. When people do this I tend to resent
them, and I don't want the burden of disliking someone who I'd otherwise
get along with. I'd rather not know if they are subconsciously a bit
homophobic or racist (even if they claim not to be some of these people
are)

That being said I honestly wish I could talk about it more openly and be
less traumatized by it. I guess I just have some internal issues that I'm
working through where I feel insecure in my femininity because I can't
get pregnant and don't have periods. I also feel disadvantaged because
until I turned 18 I wasn't able to express myself due to the environment I
grew up in, so I feel like I'm missing out on some areas of social
development that cisgender girls get in adolescence.

So those are my reasons for stealthiness. I was more out and involved
during the transition time and did transition on the job at the company I
worked at so I feel like I've at least contributed some small amount of
trailblazing to the community. it's just at this point I am past all that and
I just want to live life and don't feel the need to be outspoken about it.

I do really appreciate people like you and Andrea who are willing to help
many others down the path. I have a deep respect for everyone who
goes down the "out" path. I am out as bisexual which has its own issues
but gender identity is just too deeply nested in me to want to be open
about my painful childhood and adolescence.

That being said I don't lie to people, I just choose not to discuss childhood
and whatnot. I have met a few TWAATs in my time, and I can't tell you
how annoying it is to run across someone who is post-op claiming that
they are a "cancer survivor" because they had a "hysterectomy" which
is total BS. I respect stealth but the point of transition is to be true to
yourself and others not to make up a bunch of lies to fill in the gaps.
