* Woo hoo! The LA GLAAD Media Awards was a lot of fun, but the San Francisco event was an extra blast because I got to present the award for best television movie! I wore my trusty “gold chain gown”, which seems to be having a resurgence in popularity. Goodness, it’s so embarassing if you look at one of the paparazzi pages online that carries all the event pics with my name attached… you see the same handful of outfits repeated over the last five years or so, ha ha.

* Andrea and I got to meet tons of cool people. Juile Newmar was there, and Jennifer Tilly and Carson from “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”. I got to meet Sharon Gless and the creators of “Queer as Folk”, and they were super nice. Sharon had seen Soldier’s Girl and we talked about it a little, and how her accepting mother character on her show was such a good image to put out there.

* Megan Mullally introduced me as an “actress and consultant from Transamerica” (yay!), and it feels good to be moving forward from being known as part of a tragedy to being known as someone with talents and projects of my own. Typical me, I instinctually walked out and took the center-stage microphone to do my bit, not realizing I was supposed to take the mic at stage right. It didn’t cause a problem, luckily. I did a turn to show off my dress and thanked GLAAD for being “brave enough to put a transgender face on screen”, because so few people are.

* Then it was off to the delightful after party. I didn’t stay too late, and was soon all cuddled up in bed (alone! sigh!) to rest up for my trip home.
