Jer Ber Jones Performs “Song to the Siren” at Telekinesis
Cal-pal Jer Ber Jones performs one of my favorite songs, “Song to the Siren”, at the”June Gloom” (2009) edition of her monthly cabaret called “Telekinesis”. I’ve been fortunate enough to perform in several editions, and look forward to working in more. “Song to the Siren” was originally by Tim Buckley, and was later covered unforgettably by Elizabeth Fraser and Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins as part of the dream-pop supergroup “This Mortal Coil”. Jer Ber leaves her own inimitable mark on the tune here.
I’ve recently been listening to the original Tim Buckley version, surprisingly played by Tim on the final episode of faux-Beatles wack(i)ness known as “The Monkees”. By the last episode, the Monkees had learned to play their own instruments and were eager to show that they had some musical taste and coolness by featuring Buckley. Mission accomplished, actually.
