Shhhh! One of My Favorite Tex Avery Cartoons
God, I loved this particular cartoon as a kid. At that time, it was hilarious to me how they “got” this trembling little bundle of nerves over and over again, but during this last year of writers’ strikes and financial downturns I’ve found myself feeling more like the little guy, ha ha. Thank goodness my move is over! Now I can relax a little.
There’s another one somewhere, where Porky Pig or somebody has to get some “peace and quiet” or else he’s just going to lose his mind, and he and Sylvester go to some rickety old hotel where Sylvester has to fall all overhimself keeping things quiet so that Porky doesn’t lose it… If I can find that one, and my current Holy Grail of old cartoons, I’ll be complete as a human being. For a minute or two.
What’s my holy grail of cartoons, you ask? There’s an episode of Woody Woodpecker where his opponent in the cartoon gets the rare “upper hand”, and at the end Woody does a “sad laugh” rather than his usual “triumphantly mocking laugh”. Huh huh huh h:(h h:(h, kinda. I NEED that cartoon, but I can’t find it anywhere! Sigh.

Hi Calpernia!
It seems like you have been having some problems lately (like your parking ticket problems), so during the past weekend I decided to try to look for your “Holy Grail of Cartoons†to help to cheer you up… and I think I may have found the cartoon you wanted.
“Woody’s Clip Joint†ends with Woody’s opponent getting the rare “upper hand†and Woody making a “sad laugh†at the end of the cartoon. Here’s the video (the quality of the video is kind of poor, but it was the only one I could find):

I hope that was the cartoon you’ve been looking for, and I hope the cartoon helps to cheer you up. =)

Yay! I’m thrilled that I found the right cartoon! (And I’m delighted that you enjoyed it!)
I was really bored this past weekend, so I decided to look for the video… and it turned out to be a fun challenge. Plus, I got to see some fun cartoons!
I’m really good at research, and I used websites like wikipedia and “The Big Cartoon Database†(www.bcdb.com) to help me find the right cartoon.
(I know you HATE wikipedia, but sometimes that website can be very useful!)
I wasn’t a big fan of Woody Woodpecker before I searched for your “Holy Grail of Cartoonsâ€Â… but now I like him a lot. I think Woody and his cartoons are very underappreciated!

I think the Porky Pig/Sylvester one is “Scaredy Cat”(1948)(on the “Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 1″ DVD set).

OMG, at 1:28 in “Scardey Cat”, Porky Pig goes full frontal nude! And I’m not even going to talk about where Sylvester is standing while this is going on!
