OMG look at this game! I’m so excited to get my little nephew a Wii for Christmas, with this game (Mario Galaxy). I almost want one myself, if I didn’t know that it would eat up hours of my life that I need to spend on other things, like making Bacon/Eggs/Rice cooking videos wink I’m quite certain that neither he nor any of his little pals reads my blog, so I don’t feel worried writing about it.

I know it’s infinitely lame to do the old, “Back in my day…” thing, but I remember a desperate, hard-scrabble Christmas back in the 80′s in which my brother, sister and I desperately hoped for an Atari 2600 to be under our tree. We wanted it so bad that we wrote a song about it (we were a musical family) that ended with the “Twelve Days of Christmas” tune and the lyrics, “And a Car-tridge in an Atar-iiiiii!” We sure enough did get it, with “Pac Man” cartridge. and I can’t tell you how thrilling it was to see that heavy corrugated cardboard Atari box alongside the bright, chunky “Pac Man” box.
